On August 7, about 13 acres were treated with Sculpin G. The chemical was applied in a larger concentration this year as research has shown this will be more effective. The cost for the canal was $500. The cost for the lake was $7,099.95. This did not include the $400 DNR permit and the fuel surcharge of $76. It will be extremely important to inform our membership of the need to increase milfoil donations to LMPOA and the Lake Margrethe Foundation. Was the treatment effective? On September 27th and 28th, Sandra cruised the lake looking at the treated milfoil beds. Where they were treated, there was little evidence of any plant life. Where we missed treating, the milfoil was at the top of the lake. Sandra happened to run into some fishermen next to a treatment area. They had just been scuba diving on the site and said "it looked like a war zone, but there was native vegetation surrounding the dead milfoil site". This is excellent news. Sandra is trying to meet up with these divers in the future to include direct visual examination of other sites.
