About the Foundation

The Lake Margrethe Foundation was established in October 1998 through the leadership of the Lake Margrethe Property Owner's Association.  The Lake Margrethe Foundation is dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural beauty and vitality of the Lake and its surroundings for future generations to enjoy. 

A Lake Foundation is beneficial because property owners cannot always rely on government support or programs to serve their specific interests.  The Foundation can provide resources and focus to pursue the long-term interests of its members.  A Lake Foundation serves its members well because its principal can be set aside, while the accrued interest is being used to preserve the positive attributes of the Lake. 

The Lake Margrethe Foundation is a part of the North Central Michigan Community Foundation.  The NCMCF is a non-profit 501(C)-3 foundation with administration to help us ensure the long-term growth of our gifts.  The funds entrusted to the Foundation will become a part of the NCMCF.  New funds are sought through gifts, bequests, and trusts.  By donating now, or by remembering the Foundation in your will or trust, you can help secure the future of our beloved Lake for generations to come.

  • To provide educational and training programs to pursue the goals of the community
  • To monitor and maintain the Lake water quality standards

Membership

While a gift in any amount is greatly appreciated, members give or pledge the following:
  • Members $750
  • Charter Members $1,500
  • Sustaining Members $3,000
  • Lifetime Members $6,000
  • Memorial Tributes $10,000
*Memorial Tributes may be designated to a specific project

Advantages of Giving

Michigan taxpayers may claim a 50% credit when donating to an endowment fund such as the Lake Margrethe Foundation Fund, which is part of the North Central Michigan Community Foundation.  The State permits a credit of up to $100 for an individual and $200 per married couple based on donations of $200 and $400, respectively.  Businesses may deduct up to $5,000 based on the size of the gift.

Gifts to the foundation also are deductible on Federal Tax Returns.  Consult a tax advisor to determine the specific tax advantages of these deductions.
