Lake Margrethe Property Owners Association Family Members
2020 has been a challenging year for our association and its board of directors. We will not be proposing a calendar for 2021 since we are not sure when we will be able to meet again in a general membership meeting. Your executive board has had two Zoom meetings to discuss future activities and events and we will continue to establish goals and objectives for 2021. Our three directors who were up for re-election in 2020, have agreed to continue to represent families in the LMPOA until we can meet again. Our current executive board includes Chuck Spencer, Sandra Michalik, Ray Basile, Doug Dodge, Harry Wojcik, Mark Lux, Mike Bushre and Bob Wilson. Further information concerning the activities and events of the LMPOA will be sent via email to members, on the LMPOA face book page, and on the LMPOA web site. Directors’ email addresses are listed on the web site.
2020 marks the first year Lake Margrethe has been treated through our Special Assessment District for Eurasian milfoil and Starry Stone wart since 2016. Although a small portion of South Bay was treated in 2017, it has been 4 years since a complete treatment was applied and the cost for 2020 was $35,433.63. That cost has been divided in thirds with the SAD, the Lake Margrethe Foundation, and Camp Grayling each paying 1/3 of the total cost. We do anticipate that our lake will again have to be treated for milfoil and stone wart in 2021 and hopefully we will be better able to control the sustained growth. Each year the lake is treated, we learn a little more about our capacity to control the growth of EWM and SSW. Since 2003, Professional Lake Management has assumed professional responsibility for the chemical treatment of the lake.
We continue to work with Camp Grayling and the District Health Department concerning the PFOS and PFOA problems in the lake and in some adjacent wells. Temporary wells have been installed at various locations around the lake where the water is tested regularly and the lake water is also tested frequently. Several of our board members have attended meetings in order to determine the best approach for future actions.
Membership requests will be sent near the end of January 2021 to members who join on a yearly basis as well as mailings to multi year members. Membership fees are $35 for one year, $70 for two years, $100 for three years and $125 for four years. Continue to be safe, follow the prescribed guidelines, and hopefully, we will be able to meet as a group in the Grayling Township Hall in May of 2021.
Sincerely,
Chuck Spencer
President Lake Margrethe Property Owners Association
